WAR.....
WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR.....?
well, war is actually good for a lot of things. the modern day industrial military technological complex thrives on war. it's good for business, it's good for research and development (hey, some of these new insane killing technologies will eventually filter down to our consumer goods). the military also gave us the internet - we should love these guys, they are making killing a fine art to make our lives better. they need to have a war every so often to justify their existence and the huge percentage of our taxes that we give them. perhaps they get bored sitting about doing endless military exercises - what better way to train the troops than in a real life fight?
war is great for the ego. if history is still around to report on the achievements of the current president of the usa, you can be damned sure he is going to want to be remembered. no matter how bad the outcome, mr. bush won't be forgotten. he will forever be known as the man that strongarmed the rest of the first world into going along with murdering a multitude of peace loving people in iraq (it's not their fault their leader is a sociopath!). his place in history is secure unlike some other former american presidents. after all, what do you know about president william taft? war is great for focusing the mind away from other issues that we really don't need to waste our energy worrying about. the fact that big business is shagging our planet senseless, the fact that we are getting poorer as the rich are getting richer than they could ever have believed (and no doubt laughing heartily that they are getting away with it), the fact that our society is a freaking mess, the fact that most of our brothers and sisters on this planet have been dealt a shitty, shitty hand, the fact that we in the west are responsible for most of the shit on this planet, the fact that america's ego is rampantly out of control, the fact that new labour has betrayed us........... sure running a nation can't be easy but you'd think there has to be a better way than this. sadly i'm not smart enough to offer any alternatives but there are people out there who are and can. why not spend a few minutes that you might otherwise have spent keeping up with the latest celebrity gossip filling your head with something a bit more fulfilling? knowledge is power which is why we are offered so many alternatives to knowledge. i know because i'm as guilty of this as anyone. to get back to the original point. war - it's good for them but not too great for the rest of us.
