It's actually my least favourite. In order I prefer:

1.Surfer Rosa/Come on Pilgrim (I got this a single CD, so they are permanently linked in my mind);
2. Doolittle, although occsionally it swaps places with
3. Trompe le Monde, which was criminally under-rated imho unlike;
4. Bossa Nova, which was a little over-rated as far as I'm concerned, still great though.

For what it's worth, while i love all of these albums, i think "Pod" may be better than any of them.

as an aside:

i can agree with any answer, pretty much. also....

"the day is like a warm night
salt rusts the cold line"

is probably my favourite couplet in any pop song.

"if there were a fire....
CAN WE SCRATCH BENEATH THIS?"

is pretty hot too. i think Hang Wire may be the best song on "Bossanova" but that's another poll.

Probably my favourite is the live album that comes with Death To The Pixies, that's what got me into them more than anything, some of the live versions are absolutely spine-tingling brutal. Lucky enough to have got it on vinyl when it came out, still whack it on regularly. Had it on CD but it didn't sound the same, as is often the case going from vinyl to CD.

The B-sides and Peel Sessions Cds are awesome too. Pretty much every bootleg I've heard is also great - they have an amazing ability to mix up the way they play their songs live.

When they released a bootleg for every gig a few years ago - I wanted them all! Even though I was a little disappointed with the reformation. When I seen Frank Black & The Catholics in 2000-ish and the year after, they started playing Pixies songs, and I honestly thought they did alot of them better.

The Pixies documentary is ace also. Everyone should listen to at least Frank Black albums too - probably the first one and FB & The Catholics' 'Dog In The Sand'. I do love most of his solo stuff though, and the Frank Black/Black Francis album is really interesting.

Yay for Pixies!

My order for the albums -

1. Trompe le Monde
2. Doolittle
3. Surfer Rosa / Come On Pilgrim ( or if I had to split them, Surfer Rosa comes first )
4. Bossanova

I think Doolittle is the best overall, and I can see why people would prefer Surfer Rosa, Come On Pilgrim and Bossanova, but I just go back to Trompe le Monde more than any of them.

Yay indeed!

Trompe got my vote in the poll.

I saw Frank Black in a wee pub in Dundee on his first post-Pixie UK tour. It was an honour to be in the same room as the King Of Indie Rock!

I loved his first couple of solo albums, particularly Teenager Of The Year. I lost touch with his music a little when he started playing with the Catholics.

Loved The Breeders too. Kim has a great voice and a knack for great tunes. No Aloha came on during a random play on my MP3 and I was bouncing along while walking the dog. Love that song!

So much talent in one band!

i voted for Come On Pilgrim. partly because i couldn't decide between 3 records and partly because i wanted it to get a vote.

There's an amazing, crunchy, rockier version of No Aloha called Cro Aloha on the B-sides of the Cannonball single. The other B-sides are excellent too - a seriously sexy cover of an Aerosmith song called Lord Of The Thighs and a dark, Josephine Wiggs-penned song too.

Haven't hear the new album yet, but thought Title TK was a real grower.

Mon le Trompe! Makes me happy to see an underdog album getting some much-deserved love.

Yeah, I have the cannonball single with said B-side. Quality version of a great song.

I read an interview with Dave Grohl once, and he was talking about the albums that Nirvana/Foo Fighters listened to on their tour bus. Grohl's a Trompe man too! Nirvana were big Pixies fans (as is evident in the quiet/loud dynamic that a lot of their music followed) and Trompe was their favourite.

It's not on Trompe, but apparently Gigantic was Kurt's favourite Pixies song.

You know those gigs where bands play their "classic" albums from start to finish? I forget the name of these gigs, but it's a series of events that a few decent bands took part in. Anyway, I would LOVE to see the Pixies doing Trompe Le Monde.

The album means a lot to me. As well as being in my top 5 favourite albums I associate good times and old friends to Trompe Le Monde.

"Last night he could not make it. He tried hard but he could not make it..........................He started heading for the motorwaaayyyyyyyyy".

Mon the Trompe!!

The gigs are called Don't Look Back and are organised by the All Tomorrow's Parties people.

Unfortuntely for you if the Pixies were to do one it would almost certainly be Doolittle.
