After Dark
17th May 2008
Stereo, 20-28 Renfield Lane, Glasgow - 0141 222 2254
7/6 conc.

After months of running clubs on the same nights and getting annoyed with wanting to be able to go see the guests the other lot have put on, we at Wrong Island and Huntley's & Palmer's Audio Club have put our heads together, solved the problem and started a night together; After Dark.

We'll be doing much the same type of music as our original nights in the newish city centre venue of Stereo in Renfield lane with a mix of disco, kraut, nu-disco and all things danceable.

First up, guest-wise is a return to Glasgow from Andy Blake, the man behind Dissident Distribution's rather meteoric rise; it's hard to believe the first Dissident record was only released 10 months ago. Concentrating on releasing limited edition 12"s with some of the best tunes of 2007, these guys have caught the attention of dance music's big hitters; with a planned US release of the best tracks from the label on the DFA Label, home to the likes of LCD Soundsystem and Hercules and Love Affair it seems like 2008 might be the year Dissident goes stellar.

Last time Mr. Blake played at Wrong Island, he stirred up a storm and had the basement of Sleazy's packed and jumping to a mix that took in everything from Detroit classics to Sparks. We expect him to do the same in Stereo too.

Accompanying Andy will be a live show from Glasgow's very own Truffle Club.

Otherwise known as Dave Clark (not the Techno don, nor the drummer from the Dave Clark 5.) and along with JD Twitch he has lent his remix services, as Optimo (Espacio), to acts a varied as Tigersushi, DFA, The Glimmers and even hip hop hustler Pharaoh Monch.

He's also rolled out a couple of hits on Glasgow's Stuffrecords label and is ready to unleash his all new 'Music At Nite' project (a collaboration with his brother) on Wireblock Records and a David Lynch-esque sleaze rock album as 'Big Ned' on OSCarr later this year. For Dissident he served up a trippy, Italo-esque dancefloor number that's been ubiquitous on the better dancefloors of Europe this year.

As well as the usual mix of everything form disco to techno from Wrong Island DJs this is a night well worth hunting out the newest incarnation of Stereo and getting down into the basement. If you haven't been down yet, you really should, it's destined to be one of Glasgow's best venues.

Look out for more from after dark After Dark: Coming soon : Todd Terje; Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem); Aquiline; James Holden and more.
