Sons of Judah: An Awkward Jamaican Special

It's about time there was an Awkward Sons show dedicated to one of the most revolutionary countries in musical history. If smokey late-night dread.and echo-heavy, low-end bangers are what you're after, look no further.

No chat, just unimpeded bass/echo bliss.

I Hate The Fall - Another Awkward Post Punk Special (1979-1986)

This episode of The Awkward Sons gets its name from I Hate The Pop Group, a brilliant bootleg compilation of DIY obscurities from the 1970s and '80s.

Released in 2000 on Vertical Slum, it still stands as one of the best album-length overviews of a scene which was never tied to any specific sound, style or approach.

Taking a heavy amount of influence from that record, we’ve put together an hour of our favourite off-the-radar lo-fi bangers.

From primitive drum machines and dub-influenced effects-abuse to blown-out one-man-bands and horn-heavy swingers, all fronts are pretty much covered.

Tracklist

The Distributors – Wireless (1979)
Lenin Lads – Moira Dub (1986)
Minimal Man – High Why (1981)
The Murphy Federation – The Fed Up Skank (1981)
Flirt of Fiasco – Wake Up (live) (1982)
Slugfuckers – Dolphins (Are Not) Fish (1981)
Sprung aus den Wolken – Komm Her Sing Mit (1981)
Gorilla Aktiv – Die Maske (1983)
Earth Dies Burning – 60 Minutes (1983)
The Tom and Marty Band – New Wave Twist (1981)
Pyrolator - Vati es Brennt (1982)
3 Musketeers – Silent Night (1984)
Noh Mercy – Caucasian Guilt (1979)
Circle X – Onwards Christian Soldiers (1979)
The Fallout Club – The Beat Boys (1980)
Diagram Brothers – There is No Shower (1980)
Karl Blake – People with No Shoulders (1983)
Etat Brut – Crash (1981)
Surplus Stock – Let’s Kill Each Other (1982)
Furious Pig – I Don’t Like Your Face (1981)
