album - sun city girls - funeral mariachi.
single - joe - claptrap. i'm kind of shocked to be in agreement with bobobo about this! i was just writing something for the optimo blog about it (which will go up soon) too. how queer!
top re release - again, bobobo makes an excellent choice (even more scary ) but i'll go for either chrisma's chinese restaurant, the rikki ililonga box or art blakey's music for skins volume 1. 2010 was a good year for music but a phenomenal year for reissues. |

I really don't buy/download a whole lot of new music instead spend my time trawling through dusty boxes of old records so I really am going to pick something a bit predictable here probably:
My favourite (new) album was One Life Stand by Hot Chip. It really brought together what I loved about Coming on Strong and added it The Warning whilst feeling a lot more mature. Some very pretty stuff in places.
I also really liked most of the LCD album though there are are a few tracks I don't like too. It's a break-up album and I had a break-up this year, so a lot of the lyrics fitted for me. Nice that it ends with a happy and positive song too.
I really liked that Coma Cat track as well as all the Shit Robot 12"s and the Cave Painting 12"s. I dunno if I have a favourite though. I'm sure I've missed something out but most of the records I got this year (yet again) are 20 years old. I got a track called Loverboy by Candye. It's probably the best thign i've discovered this year...or Twin Image- My Baby Loves Me.
Best night out was probably the penultimate Optimo (I can't remember anything about the last one...it's like a big blank.) or the warehouse party I went to in Sydney. |

Actually, now that I have had time to think of it (and now that I've heard it three times this weekend), there is one record that has not left my bag since I bought it so I guess that should be my tune of the year.
It's called 'No Worries' by Butch and it's a jacking house thing that really reminds me of the sort of stuff I was mad about circa 1999 like Roulé and Crydamour.
It's got a really good build up to a BIG bass drop but without feeling like it's following a traditional structure.
I'm going to stop talking about it and just link it. Turn it up LOUD.

Brilliant album! The Morricone cover is just beautiful.
Also loved the Sun Araw, Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti & The Soft Moon LP's. |
