My computer is getting attacked by viruses/spam and the like, can anyone suggest free download to tackle this problem? Basically, everytime I try to go to a website by clicking on the google link it takes me to somewhere else - porn sites and the like!

where to start.....

Dont use Internet Explorer.....get mozilla firefox or opera

get avg anti virus (http://free.grisoft.com/) its free

get spybot s&d (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)

run your computer in safe mode and try and run these programs to get rid of the viruses......at least thats the best i can do off the top of my head.

oh yeah get windows defender from somwhere as well

i once had the oposite. i aint kidding. i had some kind of a virus every time i clicked in a porn link it would take me to a google serach for double glazing or conservatories or such like. which makes for a fairly dissapointing and confusing climax

also can anyway recomend a decent free firewall that aint zone alarm?

The best AV I've ever seen is NOD32.
It costs 39.99 for a year, but is well worth it.

If you really can't afford it, go for AVG or Avast.

alirobbo's friend is a High Priest of Geekhood.

The alternative, of course, is to simply buy a mac.

Install and run Spybot and Bazooka. Run them every so often to check your system. I use these two programmes as they are regularly updated and very straighforward. They dont mess up your existing system like McAffee etc do either. Sometimes having two such programmes running leads to conflicts on your system, but I find both run well together as they look for different things.

Also, as Euan says, stop using MS Explorer and change to Firefox.

All these programmes are free to be downloaded from their sites so no excuse for not having them.
