Tommy is in trouble again and I can't say i'm surprised. Could he not have picked a better lawyer though? Anwar was damaged goods even before he tried to get his clients to take the rap for his contempt of court.

The only way I can see Sheridan getting off with this is if the trail takes place in front of a jury again and he can somehow woo them with more of his "us and them" conspiracy theory nonsense. If this case is examined soley on the the facts I recon he'll be going to jail.

Irrespective of what you think hes done in his private life and whatever you feel about his politics, do you think Sheridan is guilty of perjury in this case?

Stanners I very much doubt that your opinion of sheridan and his guilt has nothing to do with his politics. Lemme think, if he was a prominent right wing politician would you starting this thread? I think not.

I dont really care whether he done it or not, I just loved seeing the news of the world/murdoch getting fucked over.

Are you trying to say I have never started a thread criticising Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (President of Iran). Wouldn't you call him right wing?

I don't know if Sheridan is guilty. I will go with innocent until proven so. However, I do know that Murdoch should really be called Malloch and is guilty of some of the worst crimes against truth and freedom of speech in the history of humanity. Sometimes I hope that there is a hell, just so Murdoch can go there. I remember recently watching a showing of Dennis Potters famous final interview with Melvyn Bragg, he is dying of Cancer and he says he feels no ill will to anyone, and then he changes his mind and says, actually 'if there was one person I could kill on this planet it would be Rupert Murdoch'. I couldn't agree more.

I hardly see there being a valid comparison between tommy sheridan and the president of iran. And when you are talking about 'right wing', the difference between left and right wing ideology in our political climate and the climate in iran is hugely different and not comparable.

It was interesting to see BBC Scotland's solicitor advocate Alasdair Bonnington saying on Newsnight Scotland last night he was 'baffled' at the decision to proceed with a criminal prosecution over this matter. He said that again the case would be brought before a jury, who could again find in Sheridan's favour. Not only has this cost millions of pounds but it smacks of double standards as perjury is committed by hundreds of witnesses in courts everyday!

Important to note that in a criminal trial the prosecution has to now prove beyond all reasonable doubt that Sheridan lied - which compares with the civil case in which the news of the world only had to satisfy the jury 'on the balance of probability' that the stories they ran on Sheridan were correct.

They werent able to do that, and in the criminal case they will now have to provide a higher standard of proof. It seems a strange decision to proceed with the case, and the motivation for doing so seems to me overtly political and personal. I can only see comparisons between the continual witchhunt on gorgeous george galloway and other outspoken critics of the establishment.

I sincerely hope that the news of the world is once again humiliated.

Theres a major difference here.

It was Sheridan who CHOSE to sue The Sun for libel. I'd hardly call it a witchhunt.

In this case, the Procurator Fiscal has decided that there is enough evidence to charge him with the offence of perjury.

Hes not on trial here for anything to do with Rupert Murdoch. Hes on trial for something relating to his conduct in court and evidence he gave under oath.

I feel I have to stick up for ol' Tommy boy this Christmas.

T'was but a year ago I was giving a rather militant loved one the gift of Tommy's socialist manifesto booky wook Imagine in their stocking.

I sent his secretary an email asking if the bold TS would be up for signing her copy if I dropped it into his office.

The next day I got a call on my mobile from none other than the man with the tan himself...

"Awright Brother, ah goat yer email, aye no bother aboot signing the book. Ah see from the address ye work for the Sub Club are ye there the noo?"

Yes I said.

"Well Brother, ah'm doing ma Xmas shopping the now but ah can swing past the club and meet ye in an hour!"

And so he did, pulling up on Jamaica Street in a wee Honda Civic, the back seat full of campaign leaflets and a shiny Che Guevara keyfob hanging from his car keys. He was brand new, got out of his car, shook my hand, stood and had a wee chat about (nonswingers) clubland, signed the book with a nice comment and then rode off into the night.

Beyond the call of duty I reckon. I like the cunt. And he's innocent too.

(Aye right he is) Very Happy

he always strikes me as a bit of a dude really. i'm certainly not in agreement with everything he does but like mozza i just like to see the murdoch empire getting it right up them. god knows that mob are guilty of much more heinous crimes than that which tam is accused of.
